Clovice A. Lewis, Jr. - Originator and Founder
Clovice is the founder of the Church 2.0 project. He was drawn to the subject of providing sustainable strategies for spiritual organizations because of his studies in seminary about ministry in times of disaster and his background as the CEO of a company that designed small emergency housing for disaster relief out of renewable materials. In 2020 Clovice completed an internship at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church in Oak Ridge, TN with the lead minister, Jake Morril. Morrill is a leading voice in the call to prepare spiritual organizations for times of crisis, so a natural bond was formed between them.
Clovice composed his first symphony at the age of 17, and has written numerous works ranging from ensembles to electronic and orchestral pieces. He graduated from the prestigious College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Theory and Composition. He studied composition with Aaron Copeland, Peter Fricker, Thea Musgrave, and Gordon Crosse. His cello teachers included Peter Preston, Peter Rejto, and Geoffrey Rutkowski. Clovice began teaching as a freshman at UCSB, and upon completion of his studies, accepted a position as an Associate Professor of Computer Music from 1978-1985. During the past 40 years the music he has composed has been performed by orchestras around the United States. You can visit www.jazzicalmusic.com for an extensive online catalog of over 200 pieces he has composed, including movies, downloadable mp3 files, scores, and parts. Also visit www.harlemvoicesmusical.com for his newest musical called “Harlem Voices”. In addition to being a composer and cellist, avid private pilot since 1987, and inventor, Clovice has also enjoyed a dual, and extensive career as a technologist and serial entrepreneur since 1984. His companies have been at the forefront of desktop publishing, 3D modeling and animation, digital audio, computer-based training, computer programming, multimedia productions, and the design of sustainable communities. Clovice received an Master of Divinity degree from the Starr King School for the Ministry in May 2021 to become a Unitarian Universalist Minister. He intends for his ministry to emphasize breaking down racial, class, and ethnic barriers, using music to counter oppression, and in preaching the gospel of the madness of human self-extinction.
